The information technology sector contributes over $1.5 billion to Rhode Island’s GDP. More than eight and a half percent of the state’s total workforce is employed in the tech sector. State leaders have focused on opportunities in the new Blue Economy, including offshore wind farms. Rhode Island’s focus on STEM education for its current workforce has resulted in computer science courses being offered in all state school districts and 78% of high schools offering Advanced Placement (AP) courses in computer science.
